Moab-ulous

I’d like to take credit for the wittiness of the title I used for today’s blog, but the credit must go to my creative husband – thanks Jimmy! Moab is, as the title says….fabulous! We got into town yesterday around 6pm and decided to drive through Arches National Park. It was a $10 fee and totally worth it. The windy road took us in and we were immediately surrounded by the red rock formations. Every angle provided another cool formation and we couldn’t stop taking pictures…

We pulled off along the way at different viewpoints to walk around and snap photos. The temperature was a dry 97 yesterday so it was a bit too warm to be away from the RV for more than a few minutes, even with the front dash AC running. We didn’t get to go on any of the trails that we wanted since dogs weren’t allowed, however, we both felt satisfied with the 1 ½ hour drive through to the Windows view point….

We were thinking about catching the sunset in Arches, however, the sun has been setting past nine every night and it was pretty warm in the RV. We decided to head out of the park around 7:30pm and drove through the cute town of Moab to our home for the night – Canyonlands Campground. We wanted to check out the Moab Brewery thanks to a recommendation from our friends Kristina and Andy. Needless to say, we were thrilled to learn that it was literally right across the street from where we were staying. Not having a car hasn’t proved to be an issue at all, even 8 days into our trip. Once we switched over from driving mode to staying the night mode, we fed the animals and then trekked across the street to feed ourselves at the brewery. First up was another pint, of course! I went with their Elephant Hill Hefeweizen which was refreshingly good while Jimmy went with their Dead Horse Ale which he equally enjoyed. We ordered an appetizer and entrees and filled our bellies with another great meal. We both picked up a t-shirt and since they were running a special, we got a free pint glass, woohoo! A quick walk across the street and we were home at our spot #15. The sun had been set for hours, yet the heat was still in the air. At 11pm, weather.com had the temps at 89, phew! You can bet the AC was blasting last night!

I did have a little bug out last night which I can laugh at now. First, let me mention that ever since our last time “dumping” there has been a foul and mysterious odor coming from the bathroom. It was almost getting to gag territory so I decided to spray a lot of Lysol all around the bathroom and the bedroom area. Within seconds, our LP Gas/Carbon Monoxide alarm was going off. We figured it was because of the overload of Lysol spray but after every reset, it would go off a few minutes later. Could there possibly be a gas leak? We haven’t even used the propane tank, oven or stove. The fire/carbon monoxide safety freak in me began to get worried. We opened all of the windows while we searched for a screwdriver to pop open the casing. When we did, we discovered that it was hard wired, so there was no turning this thing off. Crap! Are we going to have to deal with resetting this every 3 minutes all night long? We left the casing open and turned it over to lay it face down on the carpet and it stopped, ahh! Thank goodness! Now we know not to overload the back with Lysol spray. Instead, we picked up some waste tank odor control which we’ll try out when we stop again. Silly me to get so worried over nothing, I know, I know!

This morning, Jimmy got up before me and took the dog to the little dog run they had at our campground. She met Logan, a 13 month old Shepard, and the two of them had a much needed romping. Daisy hasn’t really had a good dog romping session since we left Jersey City so this was great for her and us, too!

Check out was at 11am so we were packed and ready to go just in time, if not a few minutes late – Broderick time! ;) There was a little store on the premises that advertised espresso’s so we decided to check it out before we got on the road. The office had told us that their Barista Tammy made a mean coffee drink so we had to see for ourselves! Sure enough, the rumors were true. My iced latte hit the spot as did Jimmy’s Café Latte! After fueling up the RV, we were back to Route 191 on our way to Canyonlands National Park. The fee booth was closed so we ended up getting a free pass which was nice. Like Arches, there were all sorts of spots to pull off and check out the view. Canyonlands provided more gorgeous scenery for us to soak up...

It was almost like a mini Grand Canyon, really. We drove out to the Green River Point view, snapping photos alllll along the way before we decided to head back to the main road and continue to Route 70. Our next stop along this drive to Salt Lake City was Goblin Valley National Park based on the recommendations of our friends Tad, Lani and many others. It was about 1 hour out of way, but it was worth it. The rock formations there clearly show you why its called Goblin Valley.

We were able to bring Daisy along as we climbed up and down various Goblins, enjoying the peculiar scenery.

We were even able to grab Sebastian and snap of photo of him outside of the RV. How many cats can you say have been to Goblin Valley?

We're pulled out of Goblin Valley to begin our drive and hit a little rain. The rain hitting the dry land smells like wet clay to both of us, its very distinct. Our next destination is Salt Lake City. There, we'll stay 2 nights with our friends Tad, Jodi and their daughters Ruby and Ella. We can’t wait to get some quality time with them since we haven’t seem them in years, in fact, the last time we saw them, Jodi was pregnant with Ruby!

So far Utah has provided us with some of the neatest landscapes yet! Check back for an updated photo link later - connectivity is sloooooooow here....
