Catching Up

Hello everyone,

"They" (whoever they are) say things happen in 3's, both good and bad. It's been a while since I've blogged. In fact, depending on what time this gets posted, it may have been exactly three months since my last one (July 22). Today is our 3rd day of driving (4th day total, but third actual driving day) and we've stopped at 3 waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge. Just seems to happen that way, doesn't it?

It's just after 4PM PST and we're driving from Portland, OR to Boise, ID which is home to arguably the best AC/DC Bag that Phish has ever played. As a side note, thanks to everyone for the calls and emails about Phish getting back together.

Anyway, the last I wrote I was going through the adjustment period of starting to live in SF. It really didn't take long at all. I fell in love with Noe Valley, we found our favorite spots, the pets settled into their own groove and we were off and running. People that we usually only get to talk with on the phone or converse with in some sort of electronic form were now there to grab a burger/beer with or shoot 18 with as the sun rose. We slowly started assimilating into the daily routine of being more than tourists, but less than actual residents. There were times that we took full advantage of what the city and surrounding area had to offer and others when we took it for granted. We didn't get everything done that we wanted to, but we did accomplish a lot and it then still leaves some stuff for the next time we're out either for another extended visit or the typical week/weekend.

There are a lot of things I'll miss about SF and coming up with a concrete list proves harder than anticipated, but here is what I've got top of mind right now:

  • Being in Dolores Park and watching the fog roll into downtown on our left and beyond the Mission to our right
  • Having a 5:57am tee time, thinking we were insane and actually loving it
  • The hills (no, not the MTV show. can we start a petition to get those people their own island so I don't have to see them again? anyway, yes the hills are ass kicking, but at the top of most is something to take your breath away. And no, not just from climbing it)
  • The views
  • The Golden Gate Bridge
  • Local Vegetables
  • Friends
  • Being far away from NY sports radio as the Philadelphia Phillies make the world series (GO TAMPA BAY!!!!!!!!)
  • The Franciscan Crab House
  • Barney's Hamburgers
  • Bernie's Coffee shop
  • Toast Eatery
  • The Bay Bridge (I like it. poor guy gets a bad rap because of it's fancy painted brother north of it)
  • Early mornings at the dog park with Daisy
  • The off leash dog parks in general
  • "Hey Ryan, Ken and Cassidy, wanna play 9 tomrrow?"
  • Sausalito
That said, I am looking forward to getting home. I'm not in any rush because there is more to this trip and I want to enjoy every day of it, but here's a quick list of what I am looking forward to upon returning:
  • REAL Pizza (preferably from Carmine's Pizza Kitchen on Brunswick St. in JC)
  • The reaction Daisy first has to seeing our neighbor Scott and her original owner Rachel. She may jump out of her skin
  • Going to a Giants game with my dad and friends
  • "Hey Ian/Tom, wanna grab a beer tonight?"
  • Our couch
  • Our BED!!!!!!! That thing is so comfy
  • Friends
  • Being able to see my family within a half hour
  • Hugging the friends that need it most
  • Getting hugs from the people I need them most from
  • East Coast Fall
  • East Coast Winter (yes I realize all you SF'ers think I'm nuts)
So there's a brief recap of the last 3 months. I know I missed a lot and I am sure you'll have some questions so feel free to send them along.

Although, I can't simply dwell in the past or look toward the future. There's a lot of living to do right now and as the Four Winds rolls east along Rt. 84 I'm enjoying the views. Things are less scenic now than when the trip first started, but pretty nonetheless. We'll be uploading pictures both to our smugmug account and the blog as we go. We've got leaving SF through our stay in Portland already uploaded.

Blog about the time in Portland shortly forthcoming...

Glad to be back and writing.
Sorry it took so long.

Jimmy
